What is GPON?
As stated above, GPON is short for Gigabit Passive Optical Network. This system relies solely on fibre optic cabling to deliver video, data and voice signals to hundreds of end users on a single fibre optic strand.
One way of providing hyperspeed connectivity to your property is through GPON, which is a point-to-multipoint access network. Its main characteristic is the use of passive splitters in the fibre distribution network, enabling one single feeding fibre strand from the provider to serve multiple users.
GPON has a downstream capacity of 2.488 Gb/s and an upstream capacity of 1.244 Gbp/s that is shared among users. Encryption is used to keep each user’s data secured and private from other users.
